Refused at the Fonda

AKA, their last show on American Soil. It was badass. The second that the first note of The Shape of Punk to Come was hit, there was a massive surge forward (like it wasn’t packed like a can of sardines already) and I was basically on the barricade. I was probably the youngest person there and everyone was probably in their late 20’s/early 30’s and they were easily one of the most energetic crowds I have ever been in, besides all of the Coheed crowds. During Tannhäuser / Derivè (last song of their encore) I saw the crowd split in half, which I figured was going to be a wall of death, but then I saw this guy get on all fours and this guy took off and jumped off the other guys back and nearly hit the stage with his face. It could easily be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. Shit was rad though. Its funny though, Refused was never popular until after they broke up. So glad I was able to witness it.

The Shape of Punk to Come - Refused (live at the Glass House 4.12.12)

15 years ago this band broke up and never had a chance to play on the western US properly. Fast forward to 2012 with the announcement of their reunion to play at Coachella and a tour or two, they sell out every place they went to. I was very bummed that I couldn’t go to this show in particular, I mean seriously, look at the energy! But I was able to see them at nearly every California date + 1 Chicago date and they kicked a lot of ass every time. On 11/5/12 it will be their last US date of the year and I’m stoked I get to go. Can I scream?

"They told me that the classics never go out of style but they do. They do. Somehow baby, I never thought that we would too."

- Refused - Worms of the Sense / Faculties of the Skull

Liberation Frequency - Refused

Seriously one of the better shows I’ve had the pleasure of going to. So down to go see them again (in Chi City)
